The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, Monday evening chaired at the Republican Palace a meeting of the Security and Defence Committee which discussed urgent and important issues relating to the international security and peace.

In a press statement, the Minister of Defence, Gen. Yassin Ibrahim, said that the Council heard the refutations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about what was stated in the report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations No. (696) on July 31, 2021 regarding Resolution 1591 issued in the year 2005.

He pointed out that the Council expressed reservations on the reference indicators related to political and economic governance, the security arrangements, the national plan for action for protection to civilians, as well as transitional justice, considering the progress made on these issues, and that circumstances and reasons for Resolution 1591 are no more existing.

The Minister of Defense said that the emergency meeting discussed the repeated attacks on the headquarters and property of the UNAMID mission, and directed the security authorities to adopt an integrated plan to secure and to protect the civilians and to safeguard their interests.

He stressed that peace has become a reality, and that the state will continue to bring about change, achieve the slogans of the revolution, "freedom, peace and justice", and to maximize the national interests and the lofty goals of the glorious December revolution.
