The Executive Secretary of Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) welcomed Sunday's political agreement that was signed between President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council Gen. Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan and Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok to restore civilian rule and for the release of political leaders detained in October.

The Executive Secretary further congratulated the people of Sudan and commended all those who participated constructively in the dialogue that led to the Agreement in line with the 2019 constitutional declaration and encouraged Sudan’s political leaders and the civil society to build on the momentum to unite the country.

The Executive Secretary hoped that the agreement would lead to the formation of an inclusive government and expressed the readiness of IGAD to work with the new government in the implementation of this Agreement and in their effort to serve the people and build a new democratic Sudan that responds to the legitimate aspirations of all sectors of its society.
