United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appealed on the Sudanese people for common sense and accepting the agreement concluded on the 21st. of last November between Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces Gen. Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan to guarantee “a peaceful transition towards a true democracy in Sudan,” warning that calling into question this particular solution would be very dangerous for Sudan .
Speaking in a press conference, Guterres, said “I would like to appeal for common sense. We have a situation which is, yes, not perfect, but which could allow for a transition towards democracy.”
Guterres said he understands the reaction of the part of the people “who are saying that no, we don’t want any solution that involves a military,” adding that “for me, it was an important victory to see that the Prime Minister was freed and could return to his post.
“So I would call for different forces and to the people of Sudan, I would call for them to support Prime Minister [Abdalla] Hamdok over the next stages of the transition so we can have a peaceful transition towards a true democracy in Sudan,” Guterres added.
