The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi, Sunday received in her office Worknesh Mekonnen, the Director of the UN Operations Center of the United Nations Regional Office for Project Services (UNOPS), which covers Sudan, Djibouti and Ethiopia and focuses on support and implementation of infrastructural projects at the region.
The minister expressed Sudan desire to benefit from the large projects provided by the office in the field of infrastructures, including solar energy projects, roads, capacity building, and basic services.
She stressed the importance of the infrastructures as the backbone for achieving sustainable development, indicating that the development of infrastructures is one of the priorities of the transitional government.
The Regional Director explained that the office has been implementing its projects in Sudan since 2005 in the states of Darfur, Kassala and Gedarif at the fields of water, capacity building, refugees hosting centers and the health services.
She said that the office is currently operating in the development of Arqin crossing which links between Sudan and Egypt, referring to the continuous contacts with donors to provide support and finance and the understandings being made with investors to convince them to engage in partnerships and investments in this field.
